Driving the Future of Mobility is a challenge for the European startups and innovators shaping the transportation industry. Apply with your existing solution to one or more of our challenges and benefit from Magna's mentorship and equity-free prize money as well as the potential to continue work with Magna.

Challenge Autonomy: What are the specifics?
This challenge refers to startups focusing on technologies which enable self-driving vehicles, including sensors, processors, artificial intelligence or other.
The outlook of full automation is when a vehicle can perform all driving tasks under all conditions that a human driver could perform.
Some functions of the current state of automation referred to as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) include:
- Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping System
- Advanced Parking Assistance
- Intelligent Speed Adaption, Emergency Brake Assist
- Human-car interfaces, Head-Up Displays
- Night vision
- Traffic Sign Recognition
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Detection
- Driver Drowsiness Detection, E-Call Telematics
You can apply to this challenge regardless of your industry focus as long as you think your solution is applicable.
Challenge Connected Car: What are the specifics?
This challenge is relevant for innovators with technologies which enable a vehicle to communicate with other vehicles, transportation infrastructure and cloud servers.
Some examples include but not limited to:
-Vehicle to Vehicle
-Vehicle to Infrastructure
Challenge Mobility as a Service: What are the specifics?
The challenge Mobility as a Service is aimed at startups with transportation business models and supporting technologies which do not require privately owned cars and light trucks.
This challenge is focused on solutions that shift away from personally owned modes of transportation towards solutions that are consumed as a service. This refers not only to individual mobility but to the movement of fleet and goods as well.
-Sharing (car, fleet, ride etc.)
Challenge Mobility Solutions: What are the specifics?
This is a great opportunity for innovators with technologies and services which offer improved quality, timing or cost of the mobility experience.
This challenge includes but not limited to the the following levels:
- Car Services (For example: Car sharing, Parking & Charging, Ride-sharing, Taxi & Limousine, Automated Driving)
- Car Ownership (For Example: Finance, Maintenance, Connected Services)
- Macroeconomic aspects (For Example: City Planners & Lifestyle, Energy Storage, Integrated Mobility, Journey Planning, Booking & Payment)

Who can apply to the challenges?
Startup, university research team, or individual innovator with an innovative solution or technology are eligible to apply.
Entrants must own, at the time of application and throughout the Competition, the rights to deploy any idea, solution, technology, product and/or service which they put forward in connection with their entry into the Competition.

What if my startup is not in the mobility industry?
No problem! Any startup with an innovative technology or solution which can be applied in any of the challenges is welcome to apply.
Can I apply to more than one challenge?
You are welcome to apply to more than one challenge, just make sure to submit a separate application for each challenge.
Which criteria will taken into consideration when choosing the winner?
The following criteria will be considered for choosing four winners:
- Uniqueness and creativity: the level of innovation in the proposed technology, product or service and whether it represents a significant step forward in technology
- Technology readiness level
- Business model: capability of the entrant to support the development of the proposed technology, product or service.
How do you deal with Intellectual Property?
From Section 6 of the Rules:
a) Confidentiality is not guaranteed in any way. If an entrant wishes to keep elements of their concept or idea confidential, the candidate organisation should not include that information in their application.
b) Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) between an entrant and Magna, StartUs and/or the judges will not be allowed.
c) Nothing in these terms and conditions will affect Magna or any entrant's ownership of any intellectual property rights. Entrants are required to grant Magna and StartUs only such rights as are required to evaluate and judge their application as part of the competition and to permit Magna to provide and engage in the mentorship program awarded to the winners.
